Visual Provocateurs is a call and response visual art project by Benjamin Clarkson and Michelle Knowles. The collaboration came about after the artists met at a residency at the Banff Centre for Creativity in Canada. Clarkson, an ex-evangelical Christian is a staunch atheist. Knowles, an agnostic, has a background in comparative religion and considers spirituality an essential part of the lived human experience.
Visual Provocateurs pits artist against artist in an act of visual warfare where ideologies clash. Materialism meets spirituality on the frontline of a digital battlefield.
Ben Clarkson is an artist from Winnipeg Manitoba whose work engages with mythology, nationalism, authoritarianism and absurdism.
Michelle Knowles is a visual artist from Brisbane, Australia. Her practice explores notions such as the uncanny, the fetishisation of objects, performance and ritual, the otherworldly and imaginary spaces.
